Police warn of dangerous Kool-Aid spiked drink

CANTON, OH (WOIO) – It looks and smells like Kool-Aid, but a drink Canton Police found during a recent raid is not for kids! Officers say it’s loaded with THC, the active chemical from marijuana.

Forensic scientist Jay Spencer says he’s never seen anything like it. The drink comes in a mason jar labeled “Kush Cool-Ade.”

“They came in different flavors that said Orange, Fruit Punch, one called Blue Dream, Grape and Lemonade,” said Spencer from the Stark County Crime Lab.

Ivan L.P. Munford and Rachel N. Sisson were arrested and charged with bringing the drugs into Canton, all the way from California.

Spencer tested a case of the jars and almost all of them came back positive with THC. He says these drinks aren’t hidden and while there’s a market for it, it’s illegal in Ohio.

“I went online to look it up and see if I could find anything and it popped right up for about $12 a jar,” he said.

The “Cali Fresh” brand he tested had about 200 mg of THC in each jar. While not deadly, it’s enough to make you feel the effects. He researched with a supplier who told him it makes you feel “trippy.” That could present a danger to those who think it’s just juice.

“Someone unsuspecting could easily get hold of it and drink it without knowing. Deadly? No. Would it get you high? Yes,” explained Spencer.

This is the first time police have seen the “Kush Cool-Ade” in Canton. Police and the FBI are investigating to see if it’s part of a larger problem.
